Common questions

Study in Germany — your questions, answered.

What is the APS certificate and why do I need it?

The APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate verifies the authenticity of your Indian academic documents and has been mandatory for Indian students applying to Germany since November 2022. You apply online to APS India with your documents and fee; verification typically takes a few weeks. No APS, no visa — so we start this step first.

How does the German blocked account work?

You deposit €11,904 into a blocked account (Sperrkonto) with a provider such as Fintiba, Expatrio or Coracle before your visa application. After you arrive and activate the account, roughly €992 is released to you each month for living costs. It's your own money — simply held to prove you can support yourself.

Is studying in Germany really free?

At most public universities, yes — there is no tuition fee for international students, only a semester contribution of about €150–350 (which often includes a public transport pass). Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU students €1,500 per semester, and private universities set their own fees.

Do I need to learn German?

For English-taught master's programs, no — IELTS or TOEFL is sufficient for admission. However, basic German (A1–B1) dramatically improves your part-time job options and daily life, and German-taught programs require B2–C1. We advise the right language path for your goals.

Can I stay in Germany after my studies?

Yes. Graduates receive an 18-month residence permit to look for a job matching their qualification. Once employed, you can move to a German work permit or EU Blue Card, which leads toward permanent settlement.
